Mousie smallfile P1010006.jpg

Buckskin Area, Pocatello, Idaho

This is a deer mouse, Idaho's most populous mammal! They are surely cute, and also possibly deadly, though no cases of hanta are currently known in the Pocatello area. These mice have invaded our house, and we don't quite know how to get rid of them for good. We're allergic to cats, and we have birds that could be harmed by keeping cats, so keeping cats probably wouldn't be a good solution. Quick-kill death traps don't work very often on these very smart country mice, as they learn how to recognize them after just 2-3 of their comrades die. These mice also shun most live traps, except sometimes they'd take Pied Piper International's Mice Cubes from New Hampshire. Maybe they have smart mice in NH too!!

I took this photo right after I release this mousie from one of these Mice Cubes! Not easy to catch this mouse, either with a trap or with a (slow digital) camera!

Any mouse-catching ideas are welcome!
