October 14, 2008: Just a couple of days ago or so, I heard a UC Berkeley professor on NPR comment on how both U.S. presidential campaigns use the term, "Main Street" to describe to describe ordinary people's lives and surroundings. He told the listeners how this term, coined by a Democratic woman back in the 1920's, is now no longer appropriate. According to him, with the exception of a few expensive resort towns like Aspen, Main Street, U.S.A. only exists in Disney Land/World (at all their branches). The few Main Streets that still exist, according to him, are populated with expensive boutiques selling goods that are inappropriate for the consumption of ordinary people on an ordinary day.

Well, the man must have not been aware of Main Street, Pocatello! It is for real people. All right, there's no Emporium, but there are many establishments there that are worth visiting for ordinary people on ordinary days, as well as for all of you special people on special occasions!
