My mother spent five years of her life on "The Cure" in a sanitorium when she was just a teen. Tuberculosis or TB as it was referred to as could have a person committed by the province to such an institution and quarantened usually for extended periods of time. These are my mothers photos handed down to my family after she passed on. To me they are far too precious to remain in a shoebox. These people could not ever leave for fear they could start an epidemic in the general population. They had few if any visitors because many people and even their own family members feared contact with them. They were forced to make their own entertainment and as is obvious in some of these photos lifelong friendships and bonds. They are wonderful images taken from a unique place in time where only a few people could ever fully understand what it must have really been like. So try to imagine yourself in this place, in this time, the world at war... not knowing if you were to live or to die from this terrible disease. Your youth stolen from you. Quite a few survived in thanks to dedicated Doctors and staff but sadly many others did not. So this is for you mom and your very special friends.
Kenny I love your pictures, It sure is weird to look into the past...Especially when are parents leave us. I liked your mom. She was sure head strong ! But she always respected my mother and was always very nice to her. I can't beleive how fast life is going. It's already been 3 years that mom's gone now. But I guess life goes on.
Take care
