May 6: The wrong size

Those of you who have been following the saga of my 1964 Beetle might remember that I've been having problems with the front wheels. When I first got the car last December, I'd had chromed Porsche 356 style wheels fitted. They bolt straight on as the early Porsche used a lot of standard VW parts. They look great, but the size I'd specified for the front were too wide and the tyres too fat. They rubbed on the wheel arches around corners and over bumps. I re-fitted the standard VW wheels while I thought through my options. That was 4 months ago! We're taking the little car too another local show this weekend, and not wanting to show it with the scuffy unrestored front wheels again, I ordered some narrower wheels of the same design, fitted with skinnier tyres, ready for the weekend. They arrived this morning, and guess what... the tyres are the wrong size!!!! Right width, but not tall enough. They leave a massive gap between the tyre and the wheel arch. It just looks silly. So they're going back. The supplier (it was their mistake) tell me I'll get the correct size tomorrow... I hope so!!!

So that's why you had the fancy ones in the back! I've been wondering since you did the previous shot! BTW great shot, that shiny metl is always a b$£^$" to expose for!

That's a bummer David! Could you not fit a slightly narrower tyre to the Porshe wheels or would they foul whatever? Just a thought!

Good stuff, now i know where those 107 $ have disappeared :-)
Hope you will be on correct wheels soon then.

Yep, at their expense! I mentioned that I needed them this weekend for the show that THEY are sponsoring... LOL!

Your supplier must be a very creative person, could tell him to join the PaD thing!
(btw, perfect, as usual).
