Juvenile Bateleur

South Luangwa National Park

This photo was grabbed from a video taken at extreme magnification with a Sony HD vide camera.

I am fascinated by birds of prey, but there are relatively few left in the continental United States. I had no idea how few until I saw the abundance of them in Africa. They're everywhere and in a vast variety.

This is a juvenile Bateleur that our guide spotted sitting in a tree. We stopped and gawked for a while before moving on.

This is no Bateleur. It looks like a Tawny Eagle.
