- 27th April 2005 - School Run

Last week on the school run, as work beckons next week.... Real contrast between
the crazy driving, short tempers, huge risk taking by drivers trying to deliver
their offspring to school, and this bird sitting quietly in a field on the way
back. It amuses/frustrates me that parents who will go to all lengths to remove food
with minimal risk from additives will drive so aggressively down the lanes
risking their and their precious offsprings each morning. The relative risks
don't even compare!

We live on part of the Cheshire Cycleway, but during the school run it's more
like Death Race 2000. Certainly no safe place for cyclists. If it was up to me
I'd close the road in the morning, allowing only cyclists. That way the hundreds
of kids could cycle to school (and I could have a lie-in!).

Image shot through the car window, engine running, parked just into the field! As usual once I opened the door it flew away!

Apologies in advance if I post something else later, but I needed to get this off
my chest :)

Simple but well done

Glad you did Ian, and maybe they'll start taking notice.

don't jump, think of the little ones!

Crucified bird!

Nice shot and agree with the sentiments - we've got a school at the end of our road and it's more hazardous than the M25 in the mornings!

I think they should close the roads--children need the exercise; and they could get to enjoy this bird, too.

I'm fortunate, have never had to do a school run (always walked - wasn't that far) but it amazes me how during the school holidays I can knock up to 10 minutes of my normal journey time of 30 minutes to work!

Bravo for your comments. I recall a route I used to cycle where there was really only one lane and folks in cars (with kids) would undertake an extremely dangerous passing manouver, risking a head on collision with other cars, rather than wait the 5-6 seconds it would take for me to climb the hill and get out of their way. Made me wonder about their priorities.
Thank you for letting me join your rant! :o)

Sounds as if we were both having "deep thought" days yesterday :-)

I like your idea of closing the roads. Very nice silhouette.

Wonderful silhouette! I drive through high school traffic to get to work, there is nothing like being in traffic with hundreds of teenagers.

nice catch, nice words. do you feel better now?
lol!
nomadicdragon27-Apr-2005 10:42
I can sympathize, drivers around here are insane.
Zak27-Apr-2005 10:22
you'll have to charge 'danger money' in future to do the school run ;-)
nice shot :-)

Can only agree here... driving is much less hazardous around here too when the school run has finished or it's a school holiday.
