- 17th April 2005 - Duke Street Pussy

Hope no-one takes offence at the 'Are We Being Served' caption.... remember
Mrs Slocombe? All 3 images taken from the car at a (long) red light in
the rain, so sorry if they're not quite sharp etc :)

Snapped this cat on the way back from Liverpool Harriers Wavertree ground.
It's directly opposite the China Town gates (detail below) in Duke Street.
The area seems a real mix of derelict, demolishing and trendy.

Blurry sign but thought you'd like to see the bilingual signs.
On our side of the Mersey it's usually English and Welsh (Ahha another PaD opportunity :)

Liverpool is investing tremendously in the future, one of the reasons for so many pre-development sights.... http://www.liverpool08.com/root/index.asp

Nice bit of grafitti. Really great catch and spur of the moment shooting

Rather a sad image, to me....all the history, soon to be demolished. It's a rather distainful looking cat. Nice catch and good shooting, considering you were just stopped at a red light.

You need to capture more of these before the buildings have all gone. I like this shot, it sums up a time in an area that may never be seen again. Good capture.

I love this. A great capture!

I suspect your hit count will increase dramatically :)
Glad to hear of the renovations there. Looks like a scary place.

Very cool! I'm looking for something nice for an evening out with the missus. Got anything in my size Mr. Humphries?

Think I'm sending the wrong sigals here. Next time I'll be looking out the bright side :)

You were lucky to get out with your wheels still on the car :-0

That's one big ugly cat

Fascinating stuff !

I thought this was a PS job!! Nice one.
Tor17-Apr-2005 20:31
Great shot. The cat is not adding to the apperance of the building. Someone has a HUGE plant in their window! ;)
Guest 17-Apr-2005 19:58
Has that cat actually written something? Great shot - look at that tree growing out of the window!!
Susanne17-Apr-2005 19:39
What a find, only you would find something like that. Great shot of the pussy cat. I love the title!!!
Guest 17-Apr-2005 19:30
Ian, you have a great eye

Who could forget Mrs Slocombe. I suppose all of the wonderful old buildings will be pulled down, Ian.
Zak17-Apr-2005 19:19
nice rat!

I do feel I should point to the tremendous redevelopment ongoing in Liverpool - one of the reasons why buildings can be seen in this state pre-redevelopment. Liverpool is undergoing great change, and it should bring with it renewed prosperity and investment. Of course there are still many areas, as in most cities, where living conditions are poor.
Linda Alstead17-Apr-2005 18:39
When I was in Liverpool recently, I was completely shocked by the dereliction and obvious poverty. I didn't expect it to be so much worse than London. This cat looks mean!
Sheena Woodhead17-Apr-2005 18:20
You've certainly caught the dereliction very well here, Ian.
nomadicdragon17-Apr-2005 18:09
great find.
Chris17-Apr-2005 18:07
Just love it - showing your age with the Slocombe reference, though!! Chris

Looks like that building has seen better days! Well spotted.
