This PBase photo site documents tree abuse, tree destruction and visual blight in South Florida through photographs that are displayed here for everyone in the world to view.

More people need to speak up for the trees, be against the abuse of our trees, and take actions such as calling the police in the case of trees on public property being destroyed or mutilated and the county's environmental protection department in the case of mutilated or destroyed trees on private property. In most cases, for protected species of trees, the homeowner will be cited, fined and forced to plant a replacement tree if the tree is destroyed.

Miami-Dade County holds the dubious honor of having less tree canopy than any urban area in a non-desert area, despite a history of hardwood forests occupying the area in the 1800's and fast tropical growth. Trees are so important to our environment and they reduce energy costs and depletion of natural resources when planted to shade homes and businesses, in addition to beautifying the urban area. However, this area has become full of individuals who destroy or mutilate existing trees and some of their misdeeds will be displayed on this site for all to see. It's strange that Miami-Dade County has a tree protection ordinance that is a "laugh" according to arborists in the tree trimming business in both Dade and Broward. Broward has a much stronger ordinance and consequently is much more attractive with denser and larger foliage than what is usually seen in Miami-Dade. From what we understand, municipalities in Miami-Dade can enact tree protection ordinances if they are stronger than the county's tree protection ordinance but the Town of Miami Lakes and the City of Hialeah have not done so.
