1974, a year on the road...

It's a labour of love to scan and retouch those old Kodachromes... More images added Feb. 2009

In February 1974 I set out hitch-hiking across Europe, then home overland across Asia as far as Laos - most of my transparencies made it home ahead of me, although there were casualties. A year later, I went back to complete the overland route down to Bali.

I also traveled a year in 1974-75, but with wife and 2 kids, seems to me it was the last great time of travel. ended up seeing 36 countries and going right around.

Unfortunately I was unarmed with a camera during my travels in '74, I enjoyed seeing the pics of Band i Amir and the pics of intact Bamian, Entering Afghanistan for me at that time was like going into some kind of paradise. How depressing it would be to return these days.

Hi. Love this 'vintage' stuff. Most of my galleries are scans of photos (negitives lost over the years and places. Some very cool stuff here. It surely seemed a more innocent time to travel?
