Wildlife: The Mark III And The 5D at Critter Lake: Dec 11 07
I took another morning with the new Canon 1D Mk III, along with the 5D, for testing, and I do believe I found a sweet spot with the 1D! I used a higher ISO (1600) which increases sensitivity for faster speed, but in lesser cameras a setting of 1600 invites too much noise. In the 1D and the 5D, though, the noise was quite low and I was able to lower it more in software, and the faster speed helped me to get quite sharp pics of the waterfowl as they were constantly in motion, and even do a few handheld and get good results! All of the closeups here are "100% crops" -- I cut out a small portion of the original pic to show the actual pixel-level detail, and I'm quite pleased. I did some processing on the final pics (you'll see a "before" and "after") for noise, sharpening and contrast/saturation, etc -- these are standard for shooting "RAW" files that have not been processed in the camera.
