I am looking for information pertaining to SP/4 Patrick Burns (Berns) MP. In '68 while attending MP AIT at Ft. Gordon, GA my company was billeted in the then new Patrick Burns (Berns) area. My understanding was that SP/4 Burns (Berns) defended the MP barracks with .45's from the armory and pre-loaded magazines. I recall the photos of Gen. Westmorland kneeling in front of the MP KIA's from the Tet attack.

This is Jerome Jefferson wounded by a B-40 rocket. I put the bandage on him. Lt. Gerald Waltman and I lead the alert force into that alley. My jeep, a 2 1/2 truck, and a gun jeep. I was the lead vehicle in the ambush. This photo was much later in the day when we charged down that alley to retrieve a wound man and got trapped in a garage and escaped. Upon entering the garage Major Connors was cut in half, an E-7, lost an arm, Waltman was hit in the face, Jefferson above the eye and me in left forearm. I bandaged everyone as best I could. Waltman pulled his off. Need more info contact me.

You are correct about the location. I was a medic dispatched from the 3rd Field Hospital to assist the MP's hit while responding to the original attack on BOQ3. When we entered the alley we were immediately hit with automatic weapons fire and grenades and were forced to withdraw. Several survivors of the initial attack were transported to 3rd Field.

The battle to clean out the area and retrieve the KIA's continued for most of the day. The multi-story building on the left side of the mouth of the alley (across from the ARVN compound) was subjected to several mini-gun and rocket attacks from a pair of Cobras and 3 or 4 rounds of HE from a tank as well as small arms fire from an ARVN detachment led by American advisors before resistance was subdued. Some infantry from the 9th (?) may have been involved too. Sorry for the foggy memory, it was almost 50 years ago. I distinctly remember a combat film crew being on scene for some time. They arrived right after we did.

That's actually a photo outside of the alley of BOQ3, not the embassy.
