My Black Labs

These pictures are all I have left of my black labs Mel, also known as moo moo, and Raven aka wiggles. I lost them in a divorce, and a year later Raven at age 5 had a stroke and passed away. Mel at 6 years old died 2 years after Raven.

I lost my very best friend Buddy back in July . He had internal bleeding due to cancer which we didn't know he even had until he became ill. I have even taken him to yearly appointments and all the extra visits when he would swallow koosh balls , etc. he truly was a remarkable dog and true friend who even saved me from a man attempting to get into my home. He traveled everywhere with as I am road warrior for my job. When word got out he had passed away people from near and far responded as if he were human. They to knew he was my best friend . Today I held his paw print which they casted for me. Know it was the last thing he had touched it brought tears to my eyes and than I cried as if I lost him just yesterday . My hope is everyone knows the true love of a pet. I can't replace as I have found since I brought another black lab (Jack) home from a shelter. He is a horrible young male who is always in trouble. But I love him and now remember how lab pups behave. But when I cried today for Buddy he came right over and leaned in to hug me. So please you can't replace but you can save a life and find love all over again. Now get out and find love saving a life.

Great Pictures! Hello to all Lab lovers! We lost our 10 year old Rudy to bone cancer this year. He was perfect one day, lame the next, and it only took a few hours to get the devastating news. He was such a huge presence in our lives. They give so much and ask for so little. His funniest moment was when we spontaneously tied a hankerchief around his neck. He ran around the yard bucking and twisting like a wild bronc for minutes as we cheered him on ... Yee ha Rudy! Yee ha Rudy!

I keep coming back to look at these pics because they remind me so much of my sister's lab Chester, who we lost to cancer in 2010. Chester's passing left a hole in my heart which will never be filled. The sense of loss is overwhelming.

I just lost my black lab today. He was a diabetic for 4 years and over 10 years old but we did not expect to have to put him down, but when 4 tumors were found circling his heart there really was no choice. I wanted to put his picture on my FB wall and found that I had not yet put those on my new lap top. So I went hunting for a picture that looked very much like him and found your site. I knew I had found the right site and the right dog when I saw a picture of your Raven, you see my dog who crossed over today, his name was Raven too!! These pictures are priceless! We just lost our 6 1/2 year old female black lab 3 days ago when she was tragically hit by a car. I miss her so much. There is an empty hole in my heart now. I am sorry for your loss.

My yellow lab died last August. His name was Hunter and he was 14yrs. old. We will always miss Hunter and love him. I just recently got a 31/2 yr old black lab male named Ruben and instantly fell in love again. Its like a piece of Hunter came back to me to fill my broken heart. I had to have my Ebony of 16 years put to sleep on July 19, 2011. She just could not get around anymore and was in so much pain. Everyone enjoy your labs they will be your best friends. I do not think I will ever stop crying over Ebony

So sorry. I know how hard it is . Right now I am sitting here freakin' crying as I type this. Last spring we list our beautiful female black lab. We had her for 18 years. I still miss her everyday! They are a WONDERFUL breed!! Thank goodness , she had one litter 13, and wekept a male. He's getting up there in age and hate to think about it.

I just lost my beautiful black lab, she was a gift to me from someone that loved her but could no longer keep her, she was loving and very protective of me and my grandchildren, I only had her three years, I have others dogs to help me bear the pain of losing her but I cry every day, and thank God for sending her to me. hi i lost my black lab in september 2009 she was my best friend. my wife has a westie and 2 weeks after sally died i came in from a walk , " i need a lab i cant walk half a dog" that was all i colud say then i cried like a baby. ive now got a 7 month old black called ebony full of life and my new best friend loyal, obidient and good looking. ok shes not sally but i love her just the same. Your labs are beautiful! Our family has a 12 1/2 year old black lab female Shadow. She is gentle, loving and protective of the kids. She loves to play "hide the cookie", an idea we got from the Columbus Zoo. She loves to play in the snow and hates cats with a passion. We bought her from a breeder who lived on a farm and Shadow smelled slightly of skunk when we got her. She is getting old now and her muzzle is totally gray. Our vet calls her "dangerously happy" because she whacks her tail into everything and had to have part of her tail amputated. We dread the day when she won't be here anymore. Labs are the greatest!

My name is Tammy. I think Black Labs are the most beautiful and sweetest dogs in the world. I lost my 12 1/2 year old Black Lab, "LADY" on April 17th at 1:30pm. She started panting heavy weeks before so I took her to vet and got the bad news she had heart disease and it was very bad and time was limited. She wasn't suffering so we took her home and with some meds from Dr. to keep her comfortable we had another 3+ weeks to say good-bye to her. It was heart breaking to us all, we miss her horribly. She was like a kid to me. I wanted to grieve her but knew that SHE would want me to do what I did for her and save another Black Lab. So as a tribute to her, I rescued another one. DID YOU KNOW THAT BLACK DOGS ARE THE LAST, IF AT ALL, TO BE ADOPTED??!! We have to get this message out there, so people can save more of them! Anyways, I rescued "KODA" at age 6 months and he is a handful but is the new LOVE OF MY LIFE!!

I love your pictures. Such a lovely looking dog. I lost my lovely gentle patient black lab Inca 2 weeks ago. Inca was 12.5 years old and needed to be put to sleep due to heart problems. I am still devastated. I am married with 4 kids blah blah blah but at the moment I can only feel there are 3 significant phases in my life so far, 1. Before I had Inca; 2. Life with Inca; 3. Life now without Inca.

Wow-beautiful collection of photos. Labs truly are a man's best friend. We just got back from the vet about 10 minutes ago. We had to put our 11 year old black lab down because of cancer today. My 7 year old son punched in "black labs" on google to look at pictures that look like our dog to comfort him and your beautiful pictures came right up! Thanks for sharing them!

I searched for black lab photos because I am missing our 12 year old black lab/golden mix. We had to let Whitney go 12/18. One of the hardest and saddest things I have ever had to do. Our last one we recently had to put down was a National Hunting Champion..."Jammer" and he certainly lived up to his name. Sorry about your loss too...it's rough.

we have a black lab missy.she is so loving,i've taken her to nursing homes as a therapy dog.God Himself works thru her!i also attach her to my fathers walker(he's 91)and she is sooo gentle&understanding of him.coud've possibly've been a seeing eye dog.so well rounded,athletic,people loving,real regular w/other dogs,hates 1` or 2 dogs,loves to play w/ 1 or 2,ignores the rest!we eat her up,shes DELICIOUS.

Hi,My name is Kevin and I have 3 black labs.They are "THE BEST FRIENDS"in the world!I also have 2 children and all my LABS love them dearly.My oldest BUSTER or B.B(for buster black)recently got jumped on by 2 chows.He's doing great and handled himself well.The chows were going for my youngest child which is 9 yr. old.Needless to say,BUSTER is VERY LOYAL.He got the 2 MEAN DAWGS out of my yard.He had a few holes in him but the vet says he's gonna be fine.I love my companions as much as I love my kids.In fact,they are my kids also.No one can say LABS are bad "friends".In fact BUSTER looks just like MEL!He's 8 now and I don't know what I'll do when he's gone.Thanks for sharing your pics,and sorry for your loss of RAVEN.She was and is a BEAUTIFUL FRIEND!!!!!

I have a black lab her name is brandy. she`s 11 yrs old. she went blind a yr and 1/2 ago her spirit is endless.I am her seeing eye mom. she was good at double retreiving.she still wants to retreive just not as long. it`s amazing how tuff she is.she has her occational head bumps,she even can go down our 5 front steps. and follow your voice to come back to you.i`m reslly gonna miss her when she`s gone. but she`s doing raelly well right now.

Your dogs are really cute and quiet photogenic, eh! Losing them must be upsetting but try and be happy that they led a happy life and shared a part of it with you. You know somethng they were really lucky because when they lived and even when they died they had people who loved them around him. But my lab Scotch is a bit unlucky here. I live in a joint family. There are 12 members in my family but all havent accepted him yet. Its 2years since he is staying with us and he has earned the love of majority but some are still left. I can just pray things to be better. All I want to say is be happy that they were in your life and they got all the love they deserved and you gave your best to them Take Care.

I was doing a search for black labs and came across your labs. I am making a birthday cake for my sisters boss and he has a black lab. I lost my Great Dane June 10, 2004 and still have not gotten over him. There is no better love than that of an animal or child. They give it freely and ask for nothing in return. My daughter is going to be getting a Great Dane later this summer. Thanks for sharing.

Hello, those are some gorgeous pups! I am picking up my black lab pup tomorrow! I am so excited, he is so adorable! How are these lil guys when they are young? I can handle the energy level that this little guy will have and def. have the time for him, I am a stay at home Mom, and am always home, and despite what Oprah says, even with 2 lil ones, I do have lots of downtime. I have heard that labs are really hard to house train, but haven't heard it on here. Any suggestions, I have never had a pup this young b4, he is only 6 weeks. My last dog was a shepard/St. Bernard mix, but he was 10 weeks when I got him and house training was a BREEZE! He died though, he was 16, RIP Chippy! So if anyone has any good advice with labs fill me in!

We just got a amle black lab, who is 6 mths old, and huge! He is very beautifull and will not leave my side. He loves my kids, and the first hour he was home he was guarding them from the cats.He was weary of anyone or anything comming near them!lol We also have a 6 mth old huskie lab mix,and she is a female. I thougt they would do ok but so far my other dog is scared of him. I guess he is very intimidating, even though he is the sweetest thing in the whole world!

I had to have my 14 year old black lab, Maddie, put down yesterday. She had a cancerous tumour that really caused her trouble. It's been a rough couple of days. She was my best friend and looking at your photos has made me realize, once again, why I loved her so much.

about the top i am so sorry that you lost your dogs i know how you feel i am also dog lover 4 ever 101 (one of my many names)read it if u want so sorry maybe get another dog it might help not to replace mel and all but to help the pain i at least got to keep one of my three dogs but i say no one is perfect!!not even dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i know how hard it is not to cry i am 13 and have 3 sibs P.S be thankful ravens not in pain but in doggy heaven

i love labs well any dog really i had three dogs well one a pup my dad brought them to the pound cuz the pup and the aunt chewed the sofa,and used the house as a toilet we had got back from disney land the next day we went to the park not dad he brought the dogs to the pound while we were gone sad sad names were daisy seven and molly we got to keep molly she was good daisy looked like a beagle but with a pink diamond on her nose molly horse shoe on her chest seven a diamond on her chest

My best friend is a female black lab named Harley. She is loyal, loving, sensitive, and intelligent. She is the ultimate companion and will be 4 next month. Last summer she started passing out and dropping in her tracks - sometimes up to 18 times a day. She was treated for epilepsy until our vet noticed an extremely low heart rate. She was diagnosed with level 3 heart block (the upper portion of the heart cannot get a signal to the heart to beat properly). In July, she had a pacemaker implanted and is doing extremely well. I'm glad that the pacemaker was donated to the Colorado State Univ. Veterinary Teaching Hospital by families of deceased persons for use in their surgery because it was valued at $40,000.00. Labs definitely rule!!

i think ur dogs are fantastic..i have a 4 month old black lab who i adopted from a lady who never had the time to look after him. He is the bright light of my life and i know exactly how u feel. I had to put my other 9 year old down about year and half ago his kidneys gave out and it was to late by the time we knew he was sick to help him..i still cry thinkin about him. So if anyone tries to tell u dogs are dumb..kick em in the arse for both of us

I have 2 labs...Jake & Josie...I recently went through a divorce after 15 years...it is amazing that these animals can tell when their 'people' are hurting...they are the best dogs ever. Anyone who has had a Lab know exactly what I mean! Love 'em!

Sorry to hear of the divorce, and loss of Raven. I gave up a Black Lab, Golden Retriever mix in a breakup. I think he missed me as much as I missed him, as he passed away less than 2 years later. I waited a year and a half before adopting Lady from a shelter. She is 2 yrs old, absolutely incredible dog. They certainly work their way into our hearts. Black Labs are truly a gift from God.

I've had my black lab for 4 weeks now and I can't remember what I did before she arrived. Her name is Sadie, I sometimes call her Shadow Chaser because I can't move without her hot on my heels. She's 8 months old and 65lbs....yeah, wow. She's gonna be BIGG!! I really can't wait til she grows out of the "chewing every thing in sight when I'm away" phase. I love your pics! We are Lab owners as well. "Cocoa" is our Chocolate Lab and he is 13. His favorite past-time is lying in the office waiting for a rub. We had to have is brother, a Black Lab, put to sleep one year ago. His name was "Rockie". We also have "Buddy" and he just turned one in June. "Buddy" is our 90 pound baby! He's very smart and knows lots of tricks. His favorite is when I pull out my "gun"(finger) and POW. He falls over dead. Sometimes he leaves his head up and I have to "shoot" him again and then he's dead. Our favorite game together is hide-and-go-seek in the back yard. I throw the ball, while he's after it, I run and hide behind something. When he sees that I'm gone, he drops the ball, his ears go up and he begins looking in all my hiding spaces. When he finds me, he jumps and kisses like he hasn't seen me in a week! What a joy these boys are!

I had a beautiful black lab puppy. She was about 10 weeks old and her name was Seema- it means Pretty Face. She was so playful and loving. She put a smile on our faces every morning we went out to feed her. She was hit by a car yesterday and devastated the whole family. We have a wonderful vet in our home town. He came to the office after hours and looked at Seema. He gave her a shot to rest and left her in his office overnight. He called this morning and we had to put her to sleep. She was so beautiful. We will definitley get another Lab.

I just had to put my Black lab down on Tuesday September 12th. He was almost 13. I got him from a pound in Tn when he was 18 mos. old. I have to say that Labs are great animals. He was like a part of our family. I will definately miss him. I keep thinking he will come around the corner and nudge me with his nose if you did not pay attention to him for one second. To everyone one that has a Lab, they are so loyal to the family.

I used to have a black lab named Tasha. She was 11 but we had to put her down almost 2 years ago because she had cancer. The vet we took her to didnt catch it. We stopped going to them and we took her to another vet and they said it was too late. My family cried the whole day that she was being put down because she was part of the family and it was so hard to let her go. I still think of her everyday. I wish she were still here. i know she is in spirit though. :) I loved her ALOt.

Hi Christine - I read your story and am sad for the events you experienced - but you can't blame yourself for the behavior of your dog. I know first hand - I had a beautiful yellow lab named Calvin - we used to go to the woods to hunt wild mushrooms - a hobby I took up - well after couple of years all of a sudden Calvin started having problems with his weight - when I took him to the Vet he told me his liver had failed and that he was going to die. I kept him as long as I could before I had to put him to sleep. What could have happened to Calvin might have been him eating a poisonous mushroom - thats fate! Don't blame yourself for things out of your control - It's taken me five years to think about a new dog - on Thursday I'm going to visit a new lab - maybe he's the one to help me get over Calvin. Christine I lost my black lab when I was eleven and i have missed her since. she was only one year old and her name was Midnight and she was my dog and I lover very much and I know she is not replace able. I have to live the rest of my life tring not to cry because i konw it was half my fault because i let her go in the street. Hi I am only 13 and I have to live the rest of my life thinking about how she got ran over. She was right in front of me when it happend and i keep getting flashbacks of how she got ran over and how she died after the car ran over her i watched her fall over and sat there cring non-stop it was like I never new how i was going to ever let her go. She was like my best friend and I miss her so much I try so hard not to cry when I think about her. She was a big piece if my heart and now it's gone. Once again i am only 13 and I lost my dog when i was 11. She was my life, my comfert, and my heart. When I was 7 i would always ask my mom to get me a dog and now she finally let me and when she did I let her die. I am not trying to bring my troubles to you it just makes me feal better to talk about it. Thanks for reading this it makes me feal better.

Great Pictures! Every year I buy my dogs Halloween costumes & I can never get them to keep the costumes on long enough for me to take pictures. My lab Mya is 4 1/2-the happiness she has brought me is beyond belief-I have replaced the carpets through my entire house, she chewed a hole in my mudroom wall through to the garage, she has gone through countless screens, both windows and doors. No one told me the baby age for labs is until they are 4! Despite the cost, her loyalty and love is beyond anything I have ever experienced-she is my best friend! Good luck-labs are so worth it!
