14 June 09 - Attempted to get to the summit of Mt Buller via the West Ridge. There was a lot of snow on the track, starting at approximately 1000m ASL. It became deeper and deeper as we went past Round Hill and got to the first rock cairn. At two or three steep rocky locations, the slippery rocks hidden by snow was proving to be dangerous and guaranteed to be tricky on the way back. We had lunch at the base of the last steep gully leading on the summit ridge. I climbed that alone, having to put up with very deep soft snow on a steep face. Finally got on the ridge at 2pm, looked at the summit fire tower and turned back in order to get down safely in daylight. Going down was also very difficult on those soft snow with slippery rocks but we made it back to the car safely at 4:30pm. There's always going to be another summit bid!

Unfortunately I had ISO 800 turned on by accident so the photos are a bit noisy + the UV filter got sprayed with water and I didn't know so there are a few marks on the shots... :(
