Slains Castle Sunrise

I have been indulging with a number of photo trips over the Christmas with fellow pbasers. This was from a few days back at the ruin of Slains Castle, about twenty odd miles north of Aberdeen. The core of the castle is a 16th-century tower house, built by the 9th Earl of Erroll, but with extensive later reconstruction before it fell into ruin from 1925 when the roof was removed for tax purposes. Reputably the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula novel in 1897.

colourful and fascinating...the silhouetted ruin does seem a tad spooky too, and could easily have stoked Bram's imagination..
