Looks very much like our "Portuguese Man-of-war" over here. Beaches of the Atlantic coast become littered after a storm. Severe pain to the one who touches these guys...

Thanks, Hal and Terry. Terry this is a blue bottle, a jelly fish with a nasty sting in its long blue tail. When the wind blows thousands of them into the shallow water, hundreds of swimmers can be stung. When the tide recess, many of the jellyfish lie marooned on the sand and they can still deliver a painful sting if one treads on them. This one must be relatively fresh as it was still inflated.
