For Pete

This image was shot out of pain.
In February of this year, I lost one of my best friends, totally unexpectedly, after surgery, of a pulmonary embolus. He was a great friend, and a great man.
Sherri and I loved him very much.
I still hurt when I think of him, more than three months later. He was loved by many. But he was my friend. I will miss him always...
I shot this image that cold, cold, evening, when I knew he had only a few moments left to live. It was all I knew to do to express my feelings. I have never known pain of loss like this in my life.
Peter was 62....
God Bless You, Pete...

I know that pain. It never is easy and although the pain lessens, it never goes away. He is happy and dancing in heaven and one day you will see him again but missing him here is hard to do. Many hugs, Michael!

Brave of you to share you sadness with us, I am honoured.
A fitting shot for an old friend.

Michael, This is such a loving tribute to your friend. You have my sympathy for your loss. I'm sure Pete would have loved this photo, as it is very special. Your composition is very nice and I love the massive tree and the winding road...and of course, the beautiful white church.

This is a very strong and dramatic image in B&W. I don't mind the perspective distortion at all either, I think it adds to the image.

I am also truly sorry for the loss of your good friend Peter; True friends only come along once or maybe twice in a life time, and something to be treasured...

Leica M8 and M7 - impressive ;-)

A sad moment that will be in your heart forever... and a wonderful tribute.

Very impressive image, Michael. Excellent exposure, and I particularly like the road leading from the bottom left corner. The tree is nicely lined up to point to the steeple. And, the contrast between the dark sky and the brilliant white church is truly a work of art and a fine tribute to your very sorrowful loss. To Pete!
