Common reed, wintertime

(Phragmites australis)

Though an invasive species, yet a very pretty plant.
The blossoms tip a five to seven foot long hollow reed and are soft and durable.
I kept a plant for two years decorating a room in our home and it was still very much intact when I decided to dispose of it.
They can be seen throughout Quabbin shorelines.
