Black-backed Woodpecker, male at nest

Yuba Pass, Sierra Co

This one was actually taken in a light snowfall on Thursday afternoon, a few feet from the Yuba Pass campground parking lot. Scores of birders had a chance to see these rare birds at their nest right on Highway 49.
