Challenge 18 - Transport Canada

This challenge is about the one thing we have in common (other than our passion for photography)...working at TC. The challenge is to take a photo of something that has to do with TC--it could be work-related, of the building we work in or the people we work with (or whatever else you can think of!). Let's turn this boring office building into something creative, and let's look at it in ways we haven't thought of before. Unless you are off during the next two weeks, you have NO excuse not to submit to this challenge!

Pictures taken between February 18 - March 1, 2010, will be eligible for voting.
Voting will be from March 2-3, 2010.

You can submit up to 3 photos.

My vote is for #8. It resumes the work idea: coffee and keyboard. The angle and composition of the picture are nice too. Lots of good pictures, I also like #1, 3 and 9. Good composition.

Tough choices this round. #2 really draws me in and leads the eye throughout the frame and that's why I like it best. #2 gets my vote. I really liked #3 even though I found the tree and the dirt on the building a bit distracting. #9 really does have a lot going for it too.

I vote for #5 - for me it swaps the vertical for horizontal so transparently that it looks like you could comfortably walk 'down' this wall that is actually going up. It could even be mistaken for a bridge if you weren't aware of the topic. I also liked #1 because of the bizarre lighting and curved space. I liked #9 too, well balanced - I admit I wouldn't have guessed this to be the escalators if I wasn't tipped off! -Sandy

I vote for #1. Love the simplicity, the lines that lead you through the picture, the shot of colour that echoes the shape of the lights. I also really like 7 - very interesting angle in that you can see down and across to the upper level at the same time. The two swaths of blank area help to break up and contrast with the "busy" parts. And I like 8 too. Great submissions everyone! jenna

I also vote for number 9. The composition is just amazing. I am a big fan of simplicity in a picture. I disagree that the burnt out light is an issue, if anything, it destabilizes the near perfect symmetry. The world is never a perfect place, and this detail draws you in. I would have perhaps used the lens distortion filter to straighten out the two diagonals on either side, and would have punched up a bit of the contrast, but otherwise a grand picture. Bravo. This would make a great large format print, I am sure. Pictures 6, 7, and 8 are a little busy for my taste, but are quite interesting too. I have seen a neat effect that would apply well to No 6, where the foreground (passengers on both sides) are darkened, and the rest is lightened a bit. Overall a great week. Cheers, Bob

My vote is for #8, but I'd use PS to remove the hotel - it distracts from the focal point.

I vote for #7. I like the subject and the various levels/angles that are displayed in the picture. It's busy, but in this case that just adds to the picture, IMO. It's not the best "technical" picture, but overall I liked it the best. -John Trude

hmmmm I'd love to take a picture of an employee that sits around playing solitaire all day, but I wouldn't want to get anyone fired. lol
