My bike had been modified,in that the seat and black trim on the tank,had been painted white,by the previous lady owner.Her name was Mandy and she lived in Streatham with Mick Griffin.They subsequently got married for 6 weeks,but that's another story.Owned April 1977 --August 1977.A lovely little bike.Good economy,quite fast.Lost count of how often I fell off or was knocked off.Travelled to Scotland twice.This bike in pic,must be an earlier model,mine had a cable operated disc brake.Man,was it hard to stop sometimes.Mine also had a small top box,in white,and crash bars ,front and rear.Performance wise:unfaired a clocked 82mph,downhill on the A21,near Tonbridge.With a cowl-handlebar,fairing only,on the same stretch of road,it clocked 84mph.My CB200 got me through my test;earlier in '77 it got 4 other riders through their tests.In March '77 on the return run from Dundee,I stopped for fuel in York,at about 7pm.There I met a truly gorgeous girl,better still,on a bike.Her mum put me up for the night,and the girl and I went out that evening.I kept in touch and planned to spend my week's holiday in June,at York.On the way there,the bike broke down.The seal on the left side of the camshaft,leaked oil.By the time I found out,all the oil had siphoned out and the engine seized.The RAC gave me a lift home,where all the money I'd saved for my holiday was spent fixing the bike.I was gutted and so embarassed I didn't tell the girl in York.She wouldn't have believed me,or so I thought.I frequently wonder what might have been,had I been more forthright,'cos she was really nice and into bikes.Every time I go to York,I think she's there somewhere.
