Radar memorial on St.Aldhelm's Head.

St.Aldhelm's Head,Dorset,England,UK view map

To commemmorate pioneering work in radar, carried out at Worth Matravers from 1940--1942.I had a relation,an uncle Robert, who died before my birth, who'd been involved in radar development, during WW2.Whilst,I had another uncle,John, who'd been a bomber pilot, during WW2,and all the family would talk of his exploits,no-one would ever say anything about uncle Robert, save that he was in radar and had his own car and driver.During WW2,secrecy was paramount.Long after Uncle John's death,I enquired of his service record from the Historical Branch of the MOD,to be told he'd had a crash the family did not even know of.John had flown Wellington bombers, until his death on a training flight,on 15th.February 1942.He had just been promoted to Pilot.
