Home for the Purple Martins

on the road to the barn

Like the swallows of Capistrano returning, Purple Martins return to their last abode, in early April. They are majestic in flight, melodious in song and their meals are insects they eat in flight. Wonderful to have around and I feel sadness when they head back South and their winter home. Google to learn lots more about Purple Martins...if you like.

You are lucky to have purple martins take up residence. They are not the easiest birds to attract, but it is such a pleasure when they do decide to stay for the nesting season. This looks like a good set up for these birds.
