As a photographer I sort of expected the oranges and browns of the desert - but not the brilliant purples and yellows of the desert wildflowers in bloom after a brief February rain. Nor the blue skies in the Atlas, or the greens of the coastal plains, or the deep colors of the tiles in the mosques and palaces. Each region and each city was distinct, had it's own character and history. And the people were warm and friendly, not pressing on you to sell but inviting you look or talk or bargain just for fun. In the remote mountains were gypsy people who seemed quite bemused by hiking foreigners.
