A National Christmas
by Helen Betts

Washington, D.C.

This is the National Christmas Tree, located just behind the White House, with the Washington Monument off in the distance. I originally had the idea of having the White House or a more visible Washington Monument in the background, but we weren't allowed to enter the area until after the president's motorcade had passed by so it got too dark for a well-lit monument, and the shot simply didn't work with the White house.

Beautiful, Helen. The seemingly "diminutive" size of the Washington Monument makes the tree seem all that much taller. The black background is in nice contrast. Nice photo. MFC

What a sparkling Christmas tree! Great exposure. I also like the monument so much in the background. Now our focus is the holiday period.

Perfect exposure and very beautiful tree - I love all those dots and stars of lights against the black sky! I like the two little "eyes" at the top of the Washington Monument.
