Melanie, to get the soft look I made a duplicate layer, set the blending mode to multiply, and did a gaussian blur of about 20.

Thanks for the comments. gk, I could have cropped it more, but I don't want people looking too closely at the duck :) I tried to sharpen him and blur everything else, but I'm not that good at selecting things.

hi Katherine - I really like the soft focus look you have imparted to this image. I wonder how it would look with a tighter crop to bring the duck into greater prominence but it works this way too!

Katherine, I really like how you create these dreamy landscapes. Nice contrast of the flying duck against the barren trees. I also like how the snow & the sky balance each other within your composition...effective to include a reference to the water too. Nice shot...and I like your framing. MFC
