Bullet Ant, Paraponera clavata (Paraponerinae)

Tiputini Forest Reserve, Prov. Orellana, Ecuador

Male bullet ants are far less common than the ubiquitous workers. They are similar in size and shape except for the features characteristic of male reproductives: small head, large eyes, straight (not elbowed) antennae, and two pairs of wings.
