Fountain Hills (Daylight Lightning)

Salt River Indian Reservation view map

The monsoons have bee a sweet time for lightning this year. It has been great. This is another example of simply using brute force and 1/15 second exposures. Hold the shutter down (in a solid downpour BTW) and hope to get one.

I did. Not the greatest foreground but a great strike.

havent tried it but cant you crank the aperture up to 30 or higher and get a shutter speed of 1" or longer for day lightning?

The 1D Mk II is environmentally sealed. It is a VERY nice feaure that I make use of. Note the lens was not, but the rain was light.

WOW, amazing capture. great exposure. Glad the reservation police let you take this :))
My sister in-law lives in Fountain Hills. We were there Jan 1996.
How did you manage this in the pouring rain :-O

Thanks. Took this off the highway (in about 300 feet or so) and got a visit from the reservation police. He was pretty cool and asked me to hurry it up a bit but I could stay and get the photograph.
