THE POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHY

earlier this week I was asked to photograph some labradors because the owner was concerned that
his older dog (pictured here) might not be around much longer. He wanted photos of all the dogs together.

A few days ago I received an email from someone I photographed with her dog at an event a year ago.
She told me her dog died in March and she was hoping to get a copy of the photograph.

Tonight I received an email from someone else who I photographed last year and two years ago, with her dog.
She too told me her dog died in March and she was hoping she could get some prints made up.

Being able to print memories for people is a wonderful thing and serves to remind me of the power of photography.

When my dog, Ben, died (also in March) I looked through all my photos and ended up making a 70 page book of words and photos.
Looking through the photos and putting together the book was an enormous source of comfort during
my grieving.

Again, the power of photography at work.

Just before she died in 2003 I took some nice pictures of my dog Cocoa. They're hanging right above my computer and bring back many memories.
This is a wonderful image of the lab that will also provide memories.

Ya gotta love that face :-) It's wonderful that you are able to provide others with some comfort in a sad time for them.

As powerful as your words.

I was really touched by the photo....and then I read your comments. Now it is difficult to express my feelings, but the words and photo touch my heart.

I'm happy I get to be the first to comment on this special image and your thoughtful words. As a dogs-instead-of-kids family member your words really hit home. And as an aspiring photographer this magically composed shot captures the place our companions have in our lives better than any words.
