Bird of Prey- Morning Drink (2012)

Tucson, AZ

Just went into my Back yard and saw this Cooper's Hawk) taking a drink at our fountain. I was able to get about 15' away before it flew off. This was when it was a "neighbor", but not a resident in my yard and not a nuisance!

Nice detail. I couldn't help chuckling at the irony of your current experience with these.

Nice profile of a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. The long barred tailed and the streaked breast help identify it. If it hangs around, you will see that the breast will turn orange this fall. Good classic image.

Way to be ready, Scott! Not too sharp on my hawks --
just know that I haven't seen one like it before.

Great shot Scott and a fine close range photo! Excellent timing and occasion! By the way I think it is a Coopers Hawk, but I am no expert on American hawks!
