Bird of Prey

Tucson, AZ

This Cooper's Hawk was eating its dinner in one of my mesquite trees. This is one two of them that live nearby me, and they will often catch a pigeon or sparrow and eat them on one of my trees. I was shooting a family portrait when we noticed the falcon, so I was ready to photograph him. I was about 10' away from him when I took this. The only problem with these Hawks if we have to take extra precautions when we have our guinea pigs outside....

WOW !
You have been very lucky SLC, just like me.
Yes, he came one also in my backyard at breakfast time.
He eat its prey on a willow branch located in our courtyard.
He caught before is prey (blue jay) in our Apple tree before our very eyes while we lunch.

What a great shot of this Peregrine, Scott!! Love the catch-light in its eyes.
Looks like it has dinner remnants still in its talons...
Birds like this are employed by a contractor at the base
to clear pigeons off the runway. They do a wonderful job of it too.
