We hiked from Rainbow Bridge along a trail that was probably not more than 3 km, but felt much longer because it was so bloody hot. The last 30 metres or so were on steep, loose rock and sand, and led to a cave where previous visitors, obviously bolder than I, had set up camp. It was blissfully quiet from our perch, as Cheryl sang a sweet Maori song for us.
