In the afternoon my grand-daughter comes skipping out of day care with yet another art project.
On this particular day she handed me a little red construction paper heart and said "I love you Lala".
I tucked the heart in my jacket pocket.
A couple days later, as I stood in the cold morning air at 04:30AM waiting for my little dog Mollie to "do it", I reached in my pocket and there was that little red heart.
I rubbed it between my fingers and thought of how proud Alaina was when she gave it to me, and suddenly I felt warm all over.
So every time I put on my jacket, I reach for the little paper heart. It has become very soft and worn, and has come to symbolize a very special love.
