February Sunrise

One morning in late February I went outside at dawn to feed the deer (who gather around my house in anticipation of their breakfast), and a beautiful pink sunrise was filling the sky and casting warm golden hues on grasses, trees, and bushes, as well as the white blossoms of the apple tree. Usually it's the view to the west of the house, with it's sweeping ocean panorama, that I most enjoy, but on this particular morning it was the view to the east that presented an irresistible picture. Before the sky could fade I retrieved my camera from the house and captured the sight for posterity, later deciding that it would be well worth painting. This large acrylic, which I painted from the photograph, now hangs in my bedroom.
