Unfortunately, as good as the eclipse part of the trip went, that's how poorly the Crater Lake part of the trip went. A short scenic highway directly from Roseburg, Oregon, over to Crater Lake N.P., was closed, possibly due to forest fire danger. This made the trip about an hour longer than it would have been. Once there, because of the haze from forest fires in the area, you could just barely see the lake. No sense in driving the Rim Road, as there was just about no visibility to the lake.
