The Twentieth Corps was activated on September 5th,
1942, at Camp Young, Indio, California, as the IV Armored
Corps and was redesignated before the Corps arrived in
England on February 18th, 1944.
The XX Corps shoulder patch was approved by the QMG on
December 4th, 1943. The colors of the insignia are those
of the main combat arms (blue for Infantry, red for Artillery,
and yellow for Cavalry) while the two crampons represent the
griping and tenacious hold that the Corps will display in
its missions. The two crampons form a stylized Roman numeral
"XX" (for "20") conveying the unit's designation.
