June 2009: US Virgins aboard a 46' yawl "Mezzaluna". |
This was my very first sail in the Virgins.
It was my very first visit to any place in the Caribbean, period.
Following an invitation of "a friend of a friend" I joined a trip to St. Thomas,
from where we sailed a custom made 46' aluminum yawl "Mezzaluna."
We sailed between St. Thomas and St. John islands. The scenery is indeed stunning.
Now I understand why so many people consider these islands a primary destination
for sailing. Over 100 islands and cays provide both great scenery and unique
surroundings to sail safely. Places to go ashore and attractions are plenty.
I could not imagine to have a better guide to these Islands than David! His knowledge of the vicinity was very good indeed, and choice of things to do was splendid. On our last day on the island by a lucky coincidence we have witnessed a parade in Charlotte Amalie with a colorful pageant of Caribbean Africans. We will be back! |
