In 1974 when the Park was in its planning stage, I had the Park declared a Bird Sanctuary through Parish Council legislation. This protects the birds and their nests and their nesting grounds.
This was the first pair of swans and were given to the Park by Sheriff Harry Lee and named Harry and Lai for him and his wife. They were very beloved swans, a very devoted couple and visitors loved them. Sadly, following Hurricane Katrina a dog killed one and a truck belonging to the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers rolled over the other. Everyone grieved for this beautiful couple that had given us so much joy.
Some of my photos have a short story under the title, so scroll down.
