The gauge shows that the River level dropped a foot since I photographed it on April 30. The Corps opened 160 bays on April 11. There are now 135 bays opened and the River is still running through the open bays with a roar.
This seven-man crew used cranes and manual labor to drop and secure the needles back into their slots in the bays--a dangerous job. They have a 100 per cent safety record this opening with no one going overboard.
