The sides of a bridge in City Park

Following the Great Depression (mid and late 1930's) when millions in the United States were out of work, President Franklin Roosevelt created a program called the WPA which gave work to people and also helped rebuild the cities and parks of the U. S.
City Park and the people of New Orleans benefitted greatly from the WPA. So many of the roads and bridges and structures in City Park were built during that era. Thousands of trees were planted as well.
This is one side of a bridge over one of the bayous. It depicts the men actually working in City Park. The art work was done by Enrique Alferez, an artist from Mexico who created so much beautiful art in New Orleans.
Though this bridge needs a cleaning, it was unscathed by the Hurricane Katrina.

Beautiful capture--and I love the story as well. We may need a modern-day WPA before long...

Love this and the story behind it! Glad it was kept intact after the hurricane.
