A Few of the Swans Were Found in Audubon Park in Uptown New Orleans

New Orleans Audubon Park

When I returned to City Park after Hurricane Katrina I could not find the swan family that I had been photographing and feeding since the cygnets hatched at the end of April. The swans and all the waterfowl had simply disappeared from the City Park waterways. Someone told me they had seen some swans in uptown New Orleans so today I walked miles looking for them and found these four in Audubon Park, some ten miles from City Park. Audubon Park has not had white swans for years
However, the Papa Swan and two cygnets are still unaccounted for. The cygnets have gotten lots of white feathers since I last saw them on August 26, 2005. Hopefully, one day we can bring them back to their home in City Park.
P. S. August, 2006. Only one swan remains in Audubon Park, the rest have disappeared, hopefully, flown away. We decided to leave the remaining swan at Audubon and buy more pairs for City Park.

Oh, Coleen, that is great news that you have found most of them!!! They will eventually make it back to their proper home! Lovely shot!

So happy you found them. They're just so beautiful. Maybe you ought to leave them there. After all, they knew where to go when the storm hit. You can always go visit them here in their new home.

I love the aspect that you took out the time to look for them. I think it is wonderful to watch how they rebuild their lifes just as so many from New Orleans are now doing. Glad you are safe, was worried when I left and had not seen a post from you.
