Pitot House

It almost looks as though no hurricane went through here.
People in the 1700's and 1800's in Louisiana built their houses to withstand the heat, the cold and the hurricanes. The storm shutter which are so decorative for most of the year prevented the glass doors and windows from blowing in or breaking. The house stayed dry and the winds did not get in to lift the roof, though it would have taken some doing since the attic beams are about a foot thick.

looks like they got good use out of the foul weather shutters!
