The Pitot House (built in 1799) in Louisiana's Colonial era)

Sitting along Bayou St. John, it is one of the first houses built in that area. The wide galleries offered respite from the sun and the shutters that could be opened or closed offered breezes long before there was air conditioning.
Today it is on the Registry of Historical Places and is open for tours, parties etc.
