Battle of New Orleans Mass

Ursuline -Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor

Yes, it is crooked and to straighten it will ruin it.
Archbishop Gregory Aymond leads the singing of the "Te Deum", in keeping with a promise made by the Ursuline nuns 197 years ago during the Battle of New Orleans. A promise was made that a Mass would be said every January 8 in thanksgiving for saving the city from the British and that the "Te Deum" would be sung.
The crowns on the statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor are the "real" crowns worn only on this day and one or two other special days of the year. They are encrusted with jewels given by the ladies of New Orleans. The statue was given to the New Orleans Ursuline nuns by the King of France in the early 1700's.

Very nice Coleen. Our Lady of Prompt Succor is the name of our church in Chackbay.
