Mississippi River has reached its Crest here according to USACE

Bonnet Carre' Spillway

Some 330 bays out of 350 bays in this 7,000 foot long structure are opened. The River at this point has reached its crest and should fluctuate within one or two tenths of a foot for the next two weeks, at least. The water travels 5.7 miles to Lake Pontchartrain going under three railroad trestles, one state highway and one interstate highway.
This scene was shot from the east side of the Spillway at Norco to the west side at Montz.
The Spillway structure is doing what it was designed to do, diverting the floodwaters of the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain and prevent flooding of the City of New Orleans.

We remember during the openings in 1973, the Corps was worried about the flow of water undermining the Old River Control structure. Haven't heard anything about it this year.

You need to add new pictures of levee on highway 61 the train trestle and just the roof showing of pavillion at camp memory. This would give a new perspective of just how high the water is now. I live in Montz on the River Road also.

Our local rivers/stream are just now beginning to flow above some past high water marks...
They are saying with all the snow and rain there well be record high water this year...

A very impressive thing to see. And not just a little scary!

So powerful and awesome... I'm glad the spillway is helping. I have friends around Morgan City who are worried now that Morganza is open.

I think a crest is a good thing. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll do the same.

Great information regarding this image. Sure hope Mountz spares any flooding.

Nice shot Coleen. Glad the efforts are working to control the flooding.

WOW, I didn't realize it was over a mile wide! Looks like the river and the spillway are almost even. How much lower is the lake from the river?

When it works it's great. Our dam at Mt Morris is helping to keep the river flow manageable as well but with all the rain we are getting it's getting pretty soggy here.

This must be incredible to see in person. An amazing amount of water. I suppose it will start going down now? Super documentary photo. V.
