196th Battle of New Orleans Mass of Thanksgiving

National Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor at Ursuline

In keeping with a promise made by the Ursuline nuns in New Orleans in 1815, the annual Mass of Thanksgiving was held at Ursuline Chapel on January 8, the anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans in which the British were defeated.
The gold statue of Our Lady of Prompt Succor above the altar, patroness of New Orleans and Louisiana, wore the jeweled crowns donated by the people of New Orleans many years ago. This is one of the few occasions in which the crowns are worn.

So good to see a full church Coleen. It is unfortunate that the church I belong to has an elderly congregation and seems to be dwindling all the time. Gorgeous interior!
