Daughters of Charity's House at Carville's Leprosarium

Carville, Louisiana

Please read introduction to this gallery to understand photo.
Had it not been for the Nursing Nuns of the Daughters of Charity Order, there would have been no one to care for the patients as everyone was afraid of getting the disease. So little was known about it.
The nuns would rise at 4 a.m., attend Mass, then begin the task of caring for all the patients. They were paid $100.00 a year.
