Call o' the Canyons: Havasu Creek



finally made the journey to the land of blue-green waters. oh my! ancestral home of the havasupai (meaning literally 'people of the blue-green waters'), this 2000' deep side canyon in the western grand canyon, famous for its calcium carbonate enriched blue-green water, its stunning waterfalls, & the innumberable small falls & pouroffs, is a photographer's paradise.

going in off-season, I found an almost empty campground below havasu falls, the last of the beautiful fall colors, some very cold nights, and a variety of wonderful lighting conditions. we hiked 28 miles in four days and only just scratched the surface of all the incredible photo opportunities to be had in this lush grand canyon shangri-la.

Saw this waterfall once in a Photomag's cover. Indeed a very beautiful scenery. The way the water tricle down the stream is amazing. The colour of the trees helps the scenery also.

Nice angle, and nice series! Longing to be there someday...

Brilliant images of one of my favorite places in the Southwest. For the adventurous photographer/hiker, there is an especially scenic day hike starting at Mooney Falls, following Havasu Creek downstream until it merges with the Colorado River. There are some excellent red rock canyon shots along the way and a swirling mixture of blue-green and chocolate-colored water at the end. Fairly strenous. Requires some rock climbing and frequent river crossings. 8 miles round trip. Leave early and return before dark. Enjoy!
