I enjoy it when there are some scraggly trees to frame bits of colorful canyon. Important NOTE: Be careful not to judge the location of the side of the cliff THROUGH THE VIEWFINDER!!

You're right. When I'm near the edge of a cliff, I make sure to have my feet firmly planted in one spot before I commence the picture taking.
