Ozarks Glade Panorama

Shaw Nature Reserve, Missouri

Glades are harsh environments characterized by shallow soil over bedrock, generally on the arid south-facing slope of a hill. Frequently surrounded by trees as here. The beauty in this place is not to look up or out, but is to look down at your feet for the tiny wildflowers that have adapted to this climate.
