Stunning, absolutely stunning, prime lens image quality in a very usable zoom range. Rapidly becoming my most used lens.

I was going to buy the IS version but I picked one up used for 1/5th the new price of an IS copy. Love IS but can't beat the value for money there.

As for weight? meh... it's a tad heavier n the scales than the Sigma 50-500 "bigma" lens but feels far better balanced on camera. I've had no real problem carrying it for up to 3 or 4 hours at a time.

My next lens... my current 70-200/4 often isn't enough to freeze some action when there's few light...

This is my least used lens. It is a great performer and really is a good lens, I just don't find it useful. Personally, I would get the IS version making it better as a hand-holdable lens. It is still a stellar performer if you need this focal length:

Probally no better lens for its purpose. There is, of course, the added bonus of building one's arm muscles while using your camera!
